The Zest Team had a wonderful month in July performing live at the Bunnings Expo for Dulux Australia to showcase their new Chalkboard range of paints.

So long to the traditional black chalkboard!  Dulux has developed a vibrant range to get creative with.

The brief was to create as many pieces as possible on chalkboard panels. Not only did they have the freedom to create, they were also able to draw inspiration from the colours and names of the new product.

For us, it was a great opportunity to share the unique talents and personalities of three of our Zest Artists.

We kicked off in Melbourne with Jenny McCracken. “I love live art, that’s what got me into pavement art to start with; the   love of drawing in front of an audience”

“There were many things to enjoy about this job, the surface of the boards Dulux provided was a delight to work on; smooth and clear, and it took colour very well.  The colours provided great variety as backgrounds for the art work, and were rich and lively.”

“My personal favourite was the last one I did, on a purple board, of ‘Shirley’, a friend’s ecclectus parrot with a hibiscus flower.  The reds, blues and yellows of the flower and bird are vibrant against the purple.”

Next up was Anton Pulvirenti in Sydney. “I enjoy live art because of the energy that comes from working in public. It is entirely different (less lonely!) to working in the studio.”

“Particularly enjoyable was the opportunity to work on new materials.  The names of the chalkboard paint provided inspiration and enjoyable subject matter. For example Colossus. I couldn’t help myself and drew Colossus of Marvel fame, his reds and yellows contrasted well with the purplish tone of the colour Colossus.”

“I enjoyed painting the spitfire the most, as it was a trip down memory lane. I drew heaps of the things when I was a kid. Boys will be boys!”

Rounding out the tour was Mealie Batchelor in Brisbane. “I love the interaction with people, talking about my art, it seems to inspire others.”

“I loved the Dulux brief, The colours of the painted boards were so vibrant yet soft for backgrounds. I found it hard to stop working as I wanted to paint on every colour board. I will definitely be using this product on my own personal works.”

“I really enjoyed chalking the giraffe, the background colour was uplifting and worked so well with him… and was a hit with the onlookers.”
