boy playing guitar on pedestal with magpies listening

The LeX Factor Busking Competition went off with a bang with almost 20 performers vying for cash prizes.  Performers were encouraged and applauded by an audience of over 100 locals in Lexington Place in Maroubra, NSW.

Zest Artist Rudy Kistler added another dimension to the event by creating a 3D pavement artwork for buskers and visitors to pose on for photographs.  Entitled ‘The Music Lesson’, the image was inspired by the painting of the same name by Sidney Long in 1904.  Many event-goers took the opportunity to climb the pedestal and perform for the ever listening audience of magpies.

The winners of the competition were Emma and Jade Guitera who performed “The Lonely” by Christina Perry on piano and vocals. The judges said they had good stage presence and song selection, lovely voice and excellent piano.  They engaged the audience and showed great poise on stage.

Congratulations to all the performers and to Randwick Youth Councillors and Randwick City Council for putting on such a great event for the local community.  Start practising for next year!  Find out more about The Lex Factor.
