Chalk The Walk & Urban Art Festivals

Chalk The Walk is a pavement art program that can be added to your festival or event.

Chalk The Walk includes a hero 3D artwork created by a leading artist, chalk art workshops, and a one-day pavement competition

Chalk The Walk has been held in Sydney, Melbourne, Surfers Paradise and Cairns.

Our first pavement art festival ‘Chalk The Walk’ was held in 2005 on Pyrmont Bridge in Darling Harbour, Sydney.  In 2007 the festival grew to become Chalk Urban Art Festival, the largest street painting festival in the southern hemisphere.  Chalk The Walk is now held in towns and regional areas, artists involved have the opportunity to part of Chalk Urban Art Festival.

To date, 15 festivals have been held across Australia, in Sydney, Melbourne, Surfers Paradise, Parramatta, Cairns and Central Coast NSW. Hundreds of artists have participated in these events and hundreds of thousands of people have come to see them at work.  Visit our Chalk website and check out photos and images in the gallery.

In each city we have held the festival, it is exciting to see locations come alive with colour and activity and become a source of pride and excitement for artists, tourists, the business community and locals.

2012 – Founder and Creative Producer Andi Mether, Champion Pavement Artists Jenny McCracken and Anton Pulvirenti travelled to Italy to represent Australia for the 40th anniversary of Incontro Nazionale dei Madonnari in Grazie di Curtatone.

They were accompanied by film makers Claire Balart and Shaun Flaherty. Jenny McCracken won her division and a gold medal for Australia. Andi Mether attended the international meeting of festival organisers and explored opportunities for an international exchange program. Jenny and Andi went on to Germany for the Geldern Street Painting Festival and later in the year travelled to Florida for the Sarasota Chalk Art Festival. Jenny was guest artist at these events. Further information and images from our trip can be seen on Chalk Urban Art travel blog.
