Dunedin 3D pedestrian crossings save lives

THE BRIEF

Dunedin City Council in New Zealand contacted Zest to create traffic calming installations that meet the highest road safety requirements and add to Dunedin’s diverse range of international street art installations.

THE CHALLENGES

1. Creating 3d pedestrian crossings that work from the drivers perspective in both traffic flow directions, and maintain pedestrian safety by meeting all government road safety requirements.

2. Working with specific road resins and aggregates with very specific application, mixing and curing requirements.

3. Dealing with the ever changing inclement weather on site.

THE OUTCOME

The response has been very positive both on the ground and in the media.

University students and lecturers now have a safe and fun way to get to lectures.

Dunedin has a world-first 3d traffic installation to boast about.

Plans for future crossings in Dunedin are underway.
