It’s often said that a thriving small business sector is at the heart of a strong economy and it’s absolutely true! In 2015 Australian small businesses will provide employment for about 4.5 million people and produce over $330 billion of Australia’s economic output. These risk taking and entrepreneurial women and men of Australian small businesses are indeed the drivers of both economic prosperity and innovation and they are being applauded.
Zest’s multiple award winning artist, Jenny McCracken, recently created a truly monumental artwork depicting a selection of the nation’s small business owners to mark the start of the annual Shop Small® campaign.
Working from original photos and using a combination of chalk and paint on canvas to bring each individual small business owner to life, the work took her some 300 hours to complete. Titled: “Faces of Shop Small”, this artwork recognises 40 small business owners from across the country, each showcasing their respective ‘tool of trade’.
The 2m x 3m artwork was launched at Parliament House by the Minister for Small Business and Assistant Treasurer, the Hon. Kelly O’Dwyer MP. The artwork now hangs in the foyer of American Express Head Office in Sydney.
Shop Small is founded by American Express, presented by Google and Optus and supported by the Accommodation Association of Australia, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Australian Hotels Association, Restaurant and Catering Australia and Tourism Accommodation Australia.
Speaking about the project Minister O’Dwyer said, “It is an absolute privilege to be able to showcase an artwork depicting a small but important sample of hard-working Australian small business owners in my office.”
This Zest International art project once again demonstrates the power and value of creative visual art to deliver compelling business outcomes for corporations and government alike. Zest is delighted to be an important contributor to #ShopSmallAU.
