Winter Chalk Mural by Anton Pulvirenti

Remember that childhood feeling, the one where you’re on your way to visit your favourite place? There’s a feeling of anticipation, you’d look eagerly around to see what’s new, what’s changed, and then there’s a rush of pleasure and excitement as you spot something new and head off explore it.

Springetts Arcade in Bowral is using chalk art to recreate a snapshot of that experience and introduce a little art culture to their local community.

Venture inside the Arcade and look up to see a new artwork, a new scene and mood as the seasons wind by.

It’s an exhibition through time rather than space, and one that the local community and business owners love to follow.

“Many of our customers come upstairs to take photos and the retailers at this end of the building are always interested to watch the artwork come alive as the artist completes it” explains Arcade manager Kerry Olesen.

“It becomes a talking point throughout the Arcade and we love coming up with new, pertinent ideas for the artists to create.”

‘Its such a shame to paint over each piece when the time comes to do another one. But then there is the excitement as another artwork comes to life, and each piece continues to live on through our customers photographs and on social media.”
