It’s great to see people out and about exercising, keeping fit and healthy in these tricky times.  As part of their ‘Streets as Shared Spaces’ project Central Coast Council engaged Zest Events International to activate the shared zone for pedestrians and bicycles along The Esplanade between Ocean Beach Road and Trafalgar Avenue at Umina Beach.

Zest consulted with Council and produced a covid-safe permanent art trail featuring native species.  ‘All walks of life’ was the concept we developed to meet Council’s objectives.  The playful 3D art trail depicts local wildlife characters fitting in with some of the typical daily activities of their human neighbours.

The locals are already engaging with the new inhabitants. With pedestrians and drivers saying “It makes me smile” and “I absolutely love what you are doing here.

“The artwork has turned out great and I am sure it will certainly bring some laughter and smiles to the community when walking, driving or riding through this area!” said Madalaine Anderson, Engineering Services at Central Coast Council.

Whilst the outcome is playful and vibrant it’s not all fun and games.  A high-level of safety planning and project management is required for a job of this nature which is right up our alley.  Working on a public street with traffic, pedestrians and cyclists passing by required Traffic Management and Covid Safety measures to be put in place. In conjunction with Central Coast Council and Coastal Traffic Solutions, Zest Events International organised a safe and productive space for works to be carried out.  With a comprehensive Covid safety plan, safe work method statements and traffic management plans put in place we were able to draw on our twenty plus years of
Strategic Planning and Arts Management experience to deliver safety compliance with amazing outcomes.

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government under the Streets as Shared Spaces program. The Streets as Shared Spaces program provides one-off grant funding to support local councils to test and pilot new and innovative ideas for streets as safe, shared public spaces.
